DIY Fabric Covered Organizer Board

Keep your jewelry organized.

Accessory and jewelry organization is key, especially when it comes to objects that easily become entangled. Jewelry boxes usually provide safekeeping for jewelry, but become a tangled mess when multiple pieces of jewelry share one small space. A fabric-covered organizer board provides a way for jewelry to stay neat, while providing a feminine display to a bedroom or bathroom. The organizer board is easy to make with ordinary supplies found at a hardware or craft supplies store. Making the board yourself saves money and time wasted on untangling jewelry from your jewelry box.

Instructions

  1. Picture Frame Organizer

    • 1

Remove glass and backing from the picture frame. On a newspaper-covered surface in a well-ventilated area, spray paint the frame in the color of your choice. Allow the paint to dry.

    • 2

Set a piece of fabric down on a flat surface, print-side down. Place the picture frame backing in the center of the fabric. Trim the fabric around the perimeter of the picture frame backing, leaving one inch around all sides.

    • 3

Form a strip of heated glue on one side of the backing. Fold fabric up and over the backing. Apply pressure to the fabric to secure to the picture-frame backing. Cut one corner of the glued fabric at a diagonal, so folding is simpler. Repeat gluing and cutting corners until the fabric is neatly secured to the picture-frame backing.

    • 4

Set chicken wire on the back of the dried frame. Cut the chicken wire with wire cutters so it rests inside the picture frame, where the glass was previously. Once the chicken wire is fitted into the frame, glue the chicken wire in place by running the glue gun around the perimeter of the frame, while the chicken wire is in place. Chicken wire is optional for the organizer, but allows more strength and sturdiness for the organized items.

    • 5

Insert the fabric-covered backing into the picture frame. Secure the backing in place with any tabs on the picture frame used for securing a picture.

    • 6

Screw in hooks to the bottom strip of wood on the picture frame for long items, such as necklaces. Embellish the frame with silk flowers and ribbon. Hang items on the organizer board by inserting them through the fabric or hanging them from the chicken wire.

    Cork Board Oganizer

    • 7

Set a piece of fabric down on a flat surface, print-side down. Place the cork board in the center of the fabric. Trim the fabric around the perimeter of the cork board, leaving one inch around all sides.

    • 8

Form a strip of heated glue on one side of the cork board. Fold fabric up and over the cork board. Apply pressure to the fabric to secure to the board. Cut one corner of the glued fabric at a diagonal, so folding is simpler. Repeat gluing and cutting corners until the fabric is neatly secured to the cork board.

    • 9

Dab hot glue on a picture-frame hanger and secure it to the top-back of the cork board. Apply force to secure properly. Depending on the size of the cork board, attach multiple picture hangers. Small boards need only one picture-frame hanger, centered in the back. Larger boards may require two hangers, one on each side of the board.

    • 10

Embellish the cork board with silk flowers and ribbon. Insert thumb tacks or push pins into the fabric and cork. Hang items from the tacks or push pins.

Tips & Warnings

  • Paint the chicken wire a color to match the frame.

  • The cork organizer board can also be used as organization of paperwork or photos. Attach paper products to the board with thumb tacks.
