The Vent Pipe Will Not Fit on My Jøtul Wood Stove
Jøtul, a Norwegian company, has been making wood stoves since 1853, and it now makes wood stoves that meet U.S. emission standards. After installing a new Jøtul wood stove in your home, you may discover that the flue or vent pipe on the stove doesn’t match the diameter of the stove pipe available in your home. You can easily fix the problem by purchasing and installing a reducer that matches the stove pipe to the vent pipe of the wood stove. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Measuring tape
- 8-by-6-inch stove pipe reducer
- Extra stove pipe sections (optional)
- Sheet metal screws
- Drill with screw bit
Instructions

1
Measure the diameter of the flue on the back of the Jøtul wood stove. Most of these wood stoves have a flue that is 6 inches in diameter.
-
2
Purchase a reducer for the Jøtul wood stove. The stovepipe reducer is a three-piece element. One end is 6 inches in diameter to mate with the Jøtul wood stove, and the other end is 8 inches in diameter to mate with the stove pipe.
-
-
3
Attach the reducer to the Jøtul wood stove by fitting it in place over the flue. Adjust the reducer to turn in the direction of the wood stove pipe by turning the 8-inch side of the reducer.
-
4
Secure the 8-inch side of the reducer to the 8-inch stove pipe from above. Add extra sections sized to fit, if needed, to make up the distance between the reducer and the stove pipe.
-
5
Insert screws through the stove pipe flange into the reducer to ensure that it stays in place. Use sheet metal screws and a drill with a screw bit to drill three screws equidistant around the diameter of the reducer and the stove pipe. Keep the screws close to the edge to secure the two pipes together.

Tips & Warnings
Stove pipe reducers come in various configurations to match a wood stove’s flue to the stove pipe available in the room.
If a stove pipe reducer is not available for the size of the flue on the wood stove to match with the stove pipe, you will need to install a new box that exits through the ceiling, with a diameter that matches the Jøtul wood stove. You will also have to add new pipe, as well as change out the chimney pipe on the roof.
