Instructions

    • 1

Choose a dye darker than the light gray hue of the silver fox fur coat. Select a richly pigmented color such as black, chestnut brown or deep red. Purchase permanent hair dye, making sure to buy at least four to five boxes of the dye, all in the same color. Ensure the colors for all boxes match by verifying the color lot number matches for all boxes. The lot number is imprinted on the outside of the box.

Hang the silver fox fur coat on a hanger and use a soft bristle brush to gently separate the hairs of the coat.

    • 3

Place garbage bags down on the floor under the fur coat while it is hanging. Mix the hair dye and put on rubber gloves.

    • 4

Pour a quarter size amount of the hair dye in to your hand and gently rub the hair dye on to the fur coat. Work in stages to assist in timing of the dye. Work the dye in to all hairs of the coat, making sure to saturate the coat completely and cover all fur from tip to where the fur attaches to the base of the coat. Allow the dye to process for 30 to 45 minutes.

    • 5

Rinse the dye off using cold water. Continue rinsing the coat until the water runs clear. Take the coat outdoors and vigorously shake the coat to expel remaining water, leaving the coat damp. Hang the coat to air dry. Repeat the dyeing process if necessary or if you desire a darker color.

Tips & Warnings

  • Test an inconspicuous section of the silver fox fur coat before applying dye to the entire coat.

  • Work in a well ventilated area or open a window to limit the odors associated with the hair dye chemicals.
