How to Assemble an Artesania Latina Hull Holder
Model ship building is a detail-oriented craft that requires steady and nimble hands. Crafters know that holding the ship as you work can have frustrating and disappointing results. Using a vice such as the Artesania Latina Hull holder will free up your hands and hold the model still as you work, preventing slips and damaging dings. Knowing how to assemble the vice is just as crucial as knowing how to build your ship. Correct construction will ensure that the holder works properly.

Assembly
-
1
Use the included paint brush to apply the glue, also included in the kit, to the hole in the center of the base portion.
-
2
Insert the dowel on the arm piece into the hole on the base and hold to set it to the glue. The arm piece is the only other wooden piece in the kit besides the base and the long wooden vice grip piece.
-
-
3
Let go of the arm piece. If it stands in place, the glue is dry. If not, reapply and hold the piece in place longer to allow it to completely dry.
-
4
Straighten the arm piece so it is standing up and not folded, as it is in the packaging.
-
5
Untwist the wing nut on the top of the arm piece and place the screw into the hole on the vice grip piece.
-
6
Reattach the wing nut. Twist until it is securely tightened.
Usage
-
7
Using the two metal clamps included in the kit, attach the vice to the desired work surface. If needed, untwist the screws to open the clamps.
-
8
Tighten the clamps by twisting the screws until you can no longer turn them.
-
9
Test the clamp strength by pulling on the vice. If it jiggles or comes loose, you will need to tighten the clamps further. Use gloves with rubber gripping, if needed.
-
10
Untwist the wing nuts on the side of the vice piece to release the two sides of the vice.
-
11
Place the ship hull into the vice.
-
12
Tighten the wing nuts until the vice fully grips the hull.

Tips & Warnings
Do not leave the cap off the glue while you work. Replace the cap when not in use to avoid drying out the glue and excess chemical fumes, especially in small work places.
