How to Have Facebook Account Closed After It Was Hacked

Despite the many improvements made to the security of Facebook accounts, occasionally a Facebook account is hacked. If your account is hacked, and you no longer want to use Facebook, closing the account is typically the best option as it prevents any future compromise of your account information. Closing a hacked Facebook account merely requires taking back control of the account and then clicking the link to close or deactivate the account.

Instructions

      Go to facebook.com/hacked and click the “My Account Is Compromised” button.

      Type in either your email address, Facebook username or your name and a friend’s name to identify your account. Click “Search” to locate your account details.

      Type in your Facebook password and click “Continue.” If you do not know your password, click the “Don’t know password link” to have your password emailed to you.

      Click “Continue” again. Type in a new password for your account and click “Submit.” Click “Continue.”

      Click the “Down Arrow” button at the top right of the screen and select “Account Settings.”

      Click the “Security” button on the left side of the screen.

      Click the “Deactivate your account” link. Enter a reason for closing your account.

      Click “Confirm” to complete the process of closing your account after it has been hacked. Your account can no longer be accessed by friends or anyone else.

Tips & Warnings

  • Change your password to something that is not easy to guess if you plan to continue to use the account. The new password should be at least eight characters in length and include a mixture of upper and lowercase letters and numbers.
