How to Attach Materials for a Crocheted Rug
A rug requires more than a single skein of yarn, making it necessary to attach new skeins as you work. Whether you're using regular cotton, wool or acrylic yarn or making your own out of T-shirts or plastic bags, the method of attaching a new skein is the same. If your rug is square or rectangular, attach the skeins at the edges. If your rug is round, attach them at the beginning of a round.

1
Finish the row or round at the end of which you wish to attach the new yarn. If your rug is round, slip stitch the last stitch together with the first chain of the round and leave one loop on your hook.
-
2
Fold the new yarn 4 inches from the end. Lay the fold into the curve of your crochet hook.
-
-
3
Pull the fold through the loop on your hook. Work the turning chain for the next row or round with the new yarn.
-
4
Tie the tails of the previous yarn and the new yarn together in a square knot.
-
5
Lay the tails of the two yarns on top of the first few stitches of the new row or round. As you crochet, the tails will be hidden inside your new stitches.
