Finish a cowgirl costume with shoe covers.

If you're dressing as a cowgirl for a dance recital, you'll need a way to transform your dance shoes into the traditional pair of cowgirl boots. Using a bit of felt and a hot glue gun, you can easily transform your shoes into a set of rustic boots, without damaging the dance shoe at all. This will save you costs over purchasing a new pair of specialty dance shoes, which can sometimes be expensive when ordered from a dance shop.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a profile of a cowboy boot in profile, making sure the bottom of the boot is as long as your own foot. If you can't find one, make the stencil yourself by tracing the outline of the side of a boot onto a piece of cardboard and then cutting it out.

    • 2

Lay the stencil over a piece of brown felt and trace its outline. Flip the stencil over and trace on another section of the felt, so you have two mirror image drawings. Cut out the traced boot shapes.

    • 3

Trace a star shape that is about 4 inches in diameter onto a piece of yellow felt. Cut the star out.

    • 4

Place one dance shoe on a table. Hold up the boot felt panels at either side of the shoe, so the dance shoe is covered. Apply a line of hot glue along the inside edge of the sides of the boot panels, so the sides are secured together. Leave the space under the shoe and the top open. Allow the glue to dry completely.

    • 5

Glue the star to the outside heel portion of the boot.

    • 6

Repeat steps 2 to 5 so you have a pair of the cowgirl boot dance shoe covers. Place the covers over the shoes just before getting ready to wear them, then slip your feet in.
