How to Build a Bulletin Board Stand thumbnail
Bulletin boards have a variety of uses.

A bulletin board has a variety of uses. It can be used in restaurants to announce daily specials, for meetings to hold notes and charts, for banquets to announce the speaker of the day, and in the classroom to show current lessons. Many bulletin boards are hung on the walls, but just as many use stands to hold the signs in place. Making your own stand for a bulletin board is a pretty simple woodworking project that will receive plenty of use once completed.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut four 1 by 3 boards, each to a length of 5 feet. Maple boards are sturdy and long-lasting. The cut pieces will become the legs of the stand.

    • 2

Cut two 11 by 3 boards equaling 36 inches each, then cut two equaling 14 inches each.

    • 3

Make a mark 3/4 of an inch away from the edge of each 14-inch piece. Make the mark in the center of the board. Drill a quarter-inch hole at each marked point. Cut a line with the table saw from the bottom of the board to the hole on one side of each 14-inch piece.

    • 4

Drill a 1 1/4-inch hole into the center of each 14-inch wood piece.

    • 5

Align two of the 4-foot pieces end to end. Screw the two wood pieces together with a hinge using 3/4-inch wood screws. Screw the other two 4-foot pieces together the same way.

    • 6

Form the leg pieces into a triangle shape with the hinge side up. Position the hinge so it is on the inside of the triangle. Screw one of the 14-inch pieces between the two sides of the triangle to hold it in place. Screw the other 14-inch piece to the other triangle.

    • 7

Screw the 36-inch pieces of wood between the two triangle pieces, forming a stand that will remain upright.

    • 8

Slide a 1-inch dowel rod inside the holes in the center of the 14-inch pieces. Support the bulletin board on this rod for display. You can also screw the board directly to the side supports.
