How to Fix Winamp in VirtualBox

VirtualBox is a piece of virtualization software that lets you run a second operating system on your main system. Windows users can use VirtualBox to run Mac, Linux, or even a different version of Windows. This has been known to create problems with Winamp streaming. The problem is that VirtualBox, by running a system within a system, uses resources that affect Winamp performance. A Winamp setting change will fix the streaming error, even if VirtualBox continues using those resources.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open Winamp.

    • 2

      Hit CTRL-P to open Preferences.

    • 3

Click “Input,” then click “MPEG Audio Decoder.”

    • 4

      Click the “Streaming” tab.

    • 5

Double the number under “Streaming Data Buffer.” This makes Winamp load more data before beginning a stream, buffering it from interruptions caused by the resource-hogging VirtualBox.

    • 6

Click “OK” and exit “Preferences” to apply the change.
