How to Make a Frequency of Occurrences Chart on Open Office

A frequency of occurences chart is simply a column or bar chart that lists a given number of items and displays the number of times each item occurs in a set. In order to create the chart in Calc, Open Office's spreadsheet program, you'll first have to set up your data correctly. Then you can use Calc's chart wizard, which will walk you through the chart creation process.

Instructions

Launch the Open Office program on your computer. Click on the "Spreadsheet" option to bring up a blank spreadsheet in Calc.

    • 2

Select cell "A1" and type in the name of the first item that you want to add to your frequency of occurrences chart. Then click on cell "B1" and type in the number of times that item has occurred.

    • 3

Click on cell "A2" and add the name of the next item that you have data for. Select cell "B2" and enter the number of times that item has occurred. Continue down the spreadsheet, adding names in the first column and the frequency in the second column.

Select the "Insert" menu at the top of the Calc screen, then choose "Chart" from the pop-up menu. You will see a chart appear, with a small "Chart Wizard" window beneath it. Don't worry if the chart looks wrong, as it will update while you adjust your desired chart settings in the wizard.

Click and hold the mouse button on cell "A1" and then drag the mouse to the last cell that holds data in the second column. Click on the check mark next to "First row as label" to remove the check. Click "Next" twice to continue.
