How to Empty the Spit in a French Horn
Allowing the "spit" to build up in your French horn leads to a gurgling sound, and eventually affects the instrument's performance. This spit is not actual spit from the musician, but warm air that condenses into water. French horn players should get rid of this water regularly, so they do not have to deal with the "gurgle of death" when playing at an important concert.

1
Empty your spit through the valve if your French horn has one. Open the valve and blow into the horn to get rid of the water.
-
2
Take out the main slides and shake them to release the water. Turn the horn to the right for a couple of rotations, just as turn a car's steering wheel. Put the slides back on carefully.

Remove the slides from the center of the instrument if you can still hear gurgling. Shake them well and replace them.

Tips & Warnings
Grease the slides regularly, so you can take them out easily when removing the spit.
Be discreet when emptying the French horn of water, as many people think the spit is the musician's own saliva, and not simply moisture.
