How to Customize Built-in Prefab Bookcases
Prefabricated built-in bookcases are installed in many homes, particularly tract-style homes, as they are cost effective and easy to install. However, built-in prefabricated bookcases may not always match your particular style and décor. There are a few things you can do to make what are usually fairly simply designed, basic bookcases look as if they fit perfectly with your furniture and in your home. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Consider painting the bookcases a unique or vibrant color that fits in with your other furniture and décor. For example, if you are using contemporary furniture in your home, red or black may work best, and if you are decorating your home with antiques, a lighter, more sedate color like light yellow or cream may be best.

2
Adjust your décor to match existing architectural elements that are already there, including built-in prefab bookcases, if you don’t already have furniture. Of course, you can be eclectic with your furniture choices if that is your style, but try to choose some pieces that match the age and style of the place you are decorating. This will make the bookcases look as if they belong in your home instead of making them feel out of place.

3
Add accessories that match the style and age of your décor. Accessories that work well with your other furniture will make built-in prefab bookcases look as if you put installed them. Accessorizing can be done in conjunction with painting.

Put storage boxes on the shelves of the built-in bookcases to make them look more customized. Using colorful storage boxes is also a way to bring more color into a bland room or tie in colors that are used only once or twice in accessories in the room. Avoid putting too many large boxes on built-in bookcases in a small room, as this can make the bookcases feel much larger than they are.
