How to Disguise Vents in a Basement Ceiling
If you have a vent on your basement ceiling that sticks out too noticeably, you will want to find a way to disguise it and let it blend in. Since covering up the vent is usually out of the question, the easiest fix is to paint the vent the same shade as the wall around it. This will disguise the vent and allow other parts in the basement to be the focal point of the room. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Remove the vent cover from the ceiling by using a screwdriver to loosen and remove the screws.
-
2
Rub down the entire surface of the ceiling vent with some fine-grit sandpaper to break apart and remove old paint or other unwanted textures.
-
-
3
Wash the vent thoroughly with warm soapy water and a clean rag. Buff the vent dry with a soft cloth.
-
4
Place the vent on a piece of butcher paper on the ground outside. Shake a can of spray paint formulated for metal and remove the cap. Choose a shade of paint as close as possible to the color of the ceiling.
-
5
Hold the nozzle about 12 inches away from the surface of the vent and press down. Apply a thin, even coat of the paint over the entire front of the vent, making circular motions to distribute the paint.

Allow the paint to dry completely.
-
7
