Backlinks are also known as incoming links.

Backlinks, which are also commonly called inbound or incoming links, are links to a website. Deep backlinks link to content that's several steps away from the website's home page. There are several keys to getting backlinks from other sites, and they mostly have to do with exposing quality, controversial, interesting or informative content to other websites in the hope that they'll take notice and link to it.

Instructions

    • 1

Link to back pages from the home page. If the landing page has a blog or other space where new content on back pages can be promoted on the home page, then use that space to link to the back pages' new or quality content. Also, use the site's back pages to link to other back pages on the same website.

    • 2

Market the back pages' content by using popular and influential social websites as a tool. Posting links to content that's new and original -- as well as interesting and well-produced -- on social news and networking sites such as Digg.com and Facebook.com can expose the back content to potential new audiences. Well-produced content that's linked to on social sites can potentially generate enough interest around it that other sites notice and link to it as well.

    • 3

Optimize the content for certain keywords used by search engines. This practice, called search engine optimization, or SEO, involves repeating certain words on the site so that search engines will automatically associate the words with the site and assume the page is about, or related to, the words. For example, using the phrase "deep backlinks" in the page title, lead section and in the body of the page can lead search engines to surmise the back page's primary topic is deep backlinks, then refer searchers of the topic to the page.

    • 4

Create link bait, which is any content on a site that's specifically created to bring attention to itself and the website its on, and therefore gather inbound links from other websites. Link bait is essential viral marketing. The content can vary, but is often controversial, such as a strongly-worded opinion piece, or is informational regarding a specific topic, such as a rare tip that isn't widespread, but can be helpful and beneficial enough that readers will want to spread the knowledge.
