How to Add a 5MW Laser to the RT-7690-2
The RT-7690-2 is a self-leveling, remote-controlled horizontal and vertical rotational laser that is manufactured by Robotoolz. The RT-7690-2 has many applications, including lining up post holes and plumb posts, and calibrating height levels for beams and trusses. The RT-7690-2 comes with a Class III, 635 nm diode, however, it has a laser output power of up to 5 mW. A 5 mW laser diode can be added to the unit. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

-
1
Remove the battery cover and take the batteries out of the unit.
-
2
Remove the case screws holding the two halves of the laser together with a Phillips screwdriver.
-
-
3
Heat the soldering iron and de-solder the solder connections of the old laser diode. Do this by touching the tip of the iron to the old solder and then using the squeeze-bulb on the back side of the soldering iron to suck the old solder off. Pull the old laser diode with a pair of needle-nose pliers.
-
4
Attach the diode terminals to their corresponding posts on the laser's circuit board.
-
5
Hold the solder just above the connections, and then touch the tip of the solder with the soldering iron. Allow a small drop of solder to fall on each connection. Allow a few minutes for the connection to harden.
-
6
Close the laser, insert the retaining screws and tighten them with the screwdriver.
-
7
Replace the batteries and battery cover and then turn on the unit to test the new laser diode.
