How to Hang a Hammock From a Wood Structure
Hang a hammock from a wood structure, such as a post, beam or stud for a secure support. Hammock manufacturers suggest a wood support as one of the best places to hang a hammock since it can well support the weight of the hammock and the person laying in it. With the right hardware -- often provided by the manufacturer or available to purchase as a separate accessory -- and the right tools, the hammock should stay securely installed. 1
Drill a hole with a wood bit about one-half the size of the screw eye's diameter into the middle of the wood beam, post or stud. Place the hole about 8 feet up from the floor. If drilling into a wall, first locate the stud with a stud finder. The stud finder should beep or light up when it reaches the middle of the stud.
-
2
Twist the screw eye into the pre-drilled hole until it feels secure and you no longer see the threads.
-
-
3
Drill a second hole with the wood bit of the same size in another wood pole, beam or stud directly across from the other post about 12 to 16 feet away -- depending on the length of your hammock -- and at the same height so that the hammock can hang straight.
-
4
Twist the second screw-eye into the hole until it's secured.
-
5
Hook the hammock rope on each end of the hammock over one end of each "S" hook.
-
6
Place an "S" hook over each one of the screw-eyes.
