Merge images together using an application included with your Mac OS X.

iPhoto is the photo management application from Apple, included with every new Macintosh computer. iPhoto allows users to import photos from their digital cameras and organize them. iPhoto also allows for basic image editing such as red-eye removal and cropping. The application does not allow for the merging of photos, but this part of the process can easily be handled by another application included with Mac OS X.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open iPhoto.

    • 2

Select the photo you wish to crop; click “Edit.” Select the area you wish to keep and click “Crop.” Repeat the process for the second photo, if necessary.

    • 3

Select each image individually and drag it out of the iPhoto window onto your desktop.

    • 4

Double-click each image to open it in Preview. If Preview is not the default image-handling application, right-click the images and select “Open With,” then “Preview.”

    • 5

Select the window for the image you wish to crop into the other, select “Edit,” then “Select All.” Select “Copy.”

    • 6

Select the window for the other image. Select “Edit,” then “Paste.” The first cropped image is then pasted into the second. Position the images as desired. Select “File,” then “Save As...” Enter a new name for the new merged image file, and save it on your desktop.

    • 7

Drag the new merged image file from your desktop into the iPhoto window. iPhoto will import the merged image into your iPhoto library. You can optionally delete the originals from your iPhoto library at this point.
