Add flowers to your tulle swags.

Tulle is a delicate, gauzy fabric that will add a romantic touch to a wedding or bit of elegance to a formal dinner party. The fabric is easy to find at most craft stores and is very inexpensive. For an evening reception, wrap the swags with white lights. For a daytime event, weave strings of ivy or flowers through the tulle. Check with your party venue to make sure you may use wreath hangers to fix the tulle swags to the ceiling.

Instructions

  1. Around the Room

    • 1

Measure the walls of the room. Purchase tulle in one or several colors.

    • 2

Cut the tulle to an appropriate width. Most stores sell tulle cut to about a 50-inch width. Cut the width in half to keep the swags from looking bulky.

    • 3

Place wreath hangers around the top of the walls at even intervals.

    • 4

Drape the tulle between the wreath hangers, allowing the fabric to hang down in between. There is no right depth to a swag drape. Just make sure the swags are even around the room.

    Center

    • 5

Attach a large hook, such as one used to hang plants, to the center of the ceiling.

    • 6

Drape the tulle from the center of the room out to wreath hangers at the periphery. You can make large swags, or break them up with wreath hangers spaced along the ceiling.

    • 7

Trim the tulle where it meets the wall.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use multiple colors for your swags. A two-toned swag makes a good decoration for sports parties or weddings.
