How to Send Bulk Email From Thunderbird
Thunderbird works well for sending dozens of email messages in bulk, and you can use it to send hundreds of messages as well. Use a mailing list to send bulk emails. Mozilla offers a free plug-in to personalize your bulk email for each recipient.
Instructions
-
Create Mail List
-
1
Launch Thunderbird. Click the “Tools” menu and select “Address Book.” Click the “New List” button.
-
2
Type a name, such as “Bulk Email” into the “List Name” field.
-
-
3
Type or paste the email list addresses into the field at the bottom of the window. Each email address must be on a separate line. Click “OK” to save the list.
-
4
Compose an email to send to everyone on the list. Type your own email address into the “To” field. Click the “BCC” field and type the name of your new list. Do not use the list in the “To” field, as this will give each recipient the email addresses of everyone on the list.
Personalize
-
5
Ensure you have the first name of each person for every email address in your Thunderbird Address Book. You can't personalize an email without a name.
-
6
Go to Mozilla's Mail Tweak website and click the “Installation” link at the top of the page. Scroll to the Download section of the page to find the XPI download link for your version of Thunderbird. Do not click on the link.

Launch Thunderbird, click the “Tools” menu, then select “Add-Ons.” Drag the download link for the XPI file from the browser page onto the Add-Ons window to install Mail Tweak. A new entry for the Mail Tweak add-on appears in the window.
-
8
Click the “Options” button in the Mail Tweak entry. Click the “Personalize Messages” option. Click “OK.” Click the “Message” menu in Thunderbird and select “Personalize.” Compose the email. Type “%%firstName%%” where you want the recipients’ first names to appear in the body of the message.
-
