How to Set a Winter Party Buffet Table thumbnail
The look of a buffet table is almost as important as the taste of the dishes..

A buffet table can make or break a party. You want to ensure that guests have enough to eat, but also that they're not fumbling with awkward dishes that require two hands to maneuver. For a winter party, it's important to include foods that follow a winter theme. Instead of summery foods, such as green salads and fruit, a winter party buffet table should contain hearty foods that warm the insides. Make your winter party one to remember with a buffet table that's well arranged and stocked with delicious winter foods. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Position the table in a place that makes sense in the serving room. Placing the table in the center of the room, for example, may facilitate access, but it can also get in the way of mingling and other party activities. If the meal isn't the central focus of the winter party, place the table on the side of the room, far enough away from the wall for people to access the table from both sides.

    • 2

Decorate your buffet table using a winter theme. Make snowflakes out of paper and use them as doilies under plates and buffet dishes. Use a blue and white tablecloth. Make mini-snowmen out of marshmallows with raisins for eyes and place them around the table.

    • 3

Choose appropriate winter foods for your buffet table. For appetizers, serve winter vegetables such as carrots, potatoes, yams and beets. Serve hot, hearty main dishes such as lasagna, casseroles, chili and pot pies. Soup may warm the heart in winter, but it isn't easy to carry at a buffet dinner, so avoid it.

    • 4

Arrange your winter party buffet table in a logical way. Place the plates, cutlery and napkins at one end of the table. Appetizers and dinner rolls should come next, followed by main dishes and side dishes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't let hot dishes sit out for more than a couple of hours. Keep them warm by renting or buying chafing dishes.
