How to Allow AXFR to Bind

AXFR is a domain name server process for monitoring server traffic. It controls transfer requests across DNS servers. If you are running the BIND DNS software, you might wish to allow AXFR controls. You can do so through its cousin, IXFR. Once you change your BIND settings, you’ll allow AXFR to run through BIND until you change the settings back. The process only requires a simple command.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open your BIND control panel.

    • 2

      Click “SSH” to open the command line.

    • 3

      Type the following (semicolon included): provide-ixfr no ;

    • 4

      Hit Enter. This will disable IXFR, which enable AXFR.
