You must live in Thailand for five years before you can apply for citizenship.

Applying for Thai citizenship, a complicated and lengthy process, is necessary for a foreign national to receive benefits of Thai citizenship, which include the right to own land, unrestricted work privileges and visa-free travel to nearby countries. A foreign national must be familiar with the Thai language and live in Thailand for at least five years before obtaining an application with police headquarters in Bangkok. Travel to the nearest police station in Thailand to obtain a list of required documents before applying for Thai citizenship.

Instructions

    • 1

Travel to your nearest police station to obtain a list of documents needed for a citizenship application.

    • 2

Gather the required documents, including a copy of your birth certificate, bank statements and a dozen recent photographs to prove that you dress decently. It is advantageous to apply for citizenship just after you receive your most recent tax returns to avoid complications.

Complete the application in the Thai langauge. Apply in person at Nationalization Office in Bangkok. Pay the required fee at time of application.

    • 4
