How to Convert a JPEG to Transparent in Paint Shop Pro
Paint Shop Pro allows you to blend two images by converting a JPEG or other image to transparent and adding a second layer beneath the original image. Using this feature, you can create a single merged image from two photographs. You an even make multiple layers transparent to create a merged image from several different photographs. Use the Layers toolbox in Paint Shop Pro to manipulate an image in this fashion.

1
Launch Paint Shop Pro, and open the image that you want to convert to a transparent format.
-
2
Right-click the "Background" Layer in the "Layers" toolbox on the right side of the window. If the "Layers" toolbox is not displayed, press the "F8" key. After right-clicking "Background," select "Properties."

3
Change the value in the "Opacity" field to a value under "100" to increase the transparency of the image. Click "OK" after making your selection. Although this makes the image transparent, you must add a new background layer before you will be able to see anything behind it.

Open a second image. Click the rectangle-shaped Selection Tool on the left side of the window, and click and drag the mouse pointer to draw a rectangle around the area of the image that you want to add to the first image. Press "Ctrl" and "C" simultaneously to copy the selection.

5
Click the first image. Click the "Edit" menu at the top of the window, and then select "Paste as New Layer." You should now see a new item in the "Layers" toolbox with the name "Raster 2."
-

-
7
Click the "File" menu and select "Save As" to save a new copy of the image without overwriting the original file.
