How to Make a Bin Cage for Hamsters
If you're interested in giving your hamster a new place to live but don't feel like shelling out the cash for a high-priced cage, you can save yourself a substantial amount of money by making one yourself. With an empty plastic bin, a few basic tools and a little bit of time, you can whip up a lavish new home for your bite-sized companion. After all, doesn't your hamster deserve only the finest living accommodations?
Things You'll Need
- Large plastic bin
- Saw or heavy-duty scissors
- Mesh wire
- Sawdust
- Hammer
- Tacks

Fill your plastic bin with sawdust. Follow up by placing your hamster's toys and food bowls in her new home.

Cut out the center of the bin's cover with a miniature saw or pair of heavy-duty scissors.

Use a hammer and tacks to secure mesh wire to the vacant center of the bin's cover. This will prevent your hamster from escaping while providing the cage with steady airflow.

Place the cover back onto the bin. Whenever you wish to take your hamster out of her cage, simply lift the cover.
