How to Make a Primary Links Drop Down Menu in Drupal 6

The primary links menu in Drupal 6 is smaller than the navigation menu but larger than the secondary menu. According to the default menu description in the administration panel, primary links "are often used at the theme layer to show the major sections of a site." With the Drupal 6 DHTML Menu module you can turn your primary links menu into a functioning drop-down menu.

Instructions

    • 1

Download the DHTML Menu module and extract the files to a folder on your computer. Upload the folder to the /sites/all/modules directory on your site using your host's file management system.

    • 2

Log in to your Drupal site, then click on "Administer." Click on "Site Building," then click on "Modules." Check the box next to DHTML Menu to enable the module.

    • 3

Click on "Site Building," then click on "Menus."

    • 4

Click on "Primary Links." Click on "Add Item" to add your first menu item. Choose the URL path and set the menu title. Click on "Save." Repeat as necessary for each menu link you want to create.

    • 5

Drag and drop the menu link blocks to the desired location. If you want to move a menu link beneath a parent menu, move it below and to the right of the parent menu. The child menu will become the drop-down menu for the specific link.

    • 6

Click on "Site Building," then "Blocks." Move down to the "Primary Links" section. Choose the block region you want the menu to appear in (sidebar, header, footer, content, etc.). Click on "Save" to enable your drop-down primary links menu.
