How to Embellish a Mirror

The addition of a mirror can be a asset to any room's decor. Mirrors reflect more light around the room, be it natural light, electric or candles. In many cases, a wall mirror can give the illusion of spaciousness, making the room seem larger than it really is. Don't hang a plain mirror on your wall -- give it some style with a little embellishment. With the right craft supplies you can turn an ordinary mirror into a work of art.

Instructions

    • 1

Collect an assortment of items you can glue on the mirror, such as sea shells, glass pebbles, sea glass, acorns or silk flowers.

    • 2

Cover your workspace with newspaper to protect it. Lay your mirror on a table, face up. Heat up your glue gun.

    • 3

Clean your mirror or your mirror frame with rubbing alcohol and a soft, lint-free rag. Let it air dry. You can glue objects directly to the mirror glass or to the frame around it.

    • 4

Glue objects starting with the inner-most edge of the frame, or around the inner-most area of the mirror you want to cover. Squeeze a generous dollop of glue and arrange your first item on it immediately because the glue will dry quickly.

    • 5

Repeat the gluing process going around the perimeter of the mirror and work your way out to the next row. Continue the process to the outer edge of the frame or mirror.

    • 6

Fill in all space with smaller items to cover the frame or edges to decorate your mirror to your liking. Glue on an added layer of items on top of the first, if desired, to create more depth and texture in the design.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you're not sure how to fit or arrange items, put them on the mirror first and arrange them to your liking before using glue. Once you have a feel for what you want you can start gluing them on.

  • Glue will adhere best if you glue the flattest surface of the object to the mirror or frame.
