How to Fix a Moldy Window Sill
Windows are often problem areas because of temperature and humidity differences between the air outside and inside of your home. You must act quickly if you notice mildew or potentially dangerous molds forming on your window sills. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Clean the mold off of the window sills using either a commercial disinfectant labeled for mold control or a bleach solution. Use no more than 1 cup of bleach to 1 gallon of water. An abrasive scrubber is usually needed to loosen up the mold growth, but be careful not to scrub so vigorously that you scrape the paint from the window sill. Keep the window open during the clean-up process to ventilate bleach fumes away from you.

2
Allow the window sill to dry thoroughly before proceeding. This step is important since you will have dislodged microscopic mold spores during the clean-up process; should they land back on a damp windowsill, more mold will grow there. Simply leave the window open or direct a fan at the window sill if simply leaving the window open does not thoroughly dry the sill.

Control indoor moisture and humidity to prevent future mold growth on the window sill. You will never be able to eliminate mold spores from your home, but mold spores require moisture to actually form a colony. The only way to prevent more mold from growing on your window sill is to reduce indoor moisture and humidity through ventilation, insulation and dehumidifiers, if necessary.
