How to Clear Keyloggers on a Mac
If you have a Mac computer, you've probably heard that you don't have to worry about viruses or other malware because the way they're made makes them impervious to those types of problems. If you believe that, you're likely to become the victim of a keylogging virus -- which tracks all the keystrokes you make on your computer and trolls them to find passwords and other sensitive information -- as well as other types of viruses that can infect your computer and cause you serious problems. To clear any keyloggers from your Mac, you will need the help of additional software.

1
Determine which operating system you are using on your Mac. Click the "Apple" icon at the top left of your computer, and then click "About this Mac." Look for the operation system type and version in the box that appears on your screen.
-
2
Navigate to the websites of the various free anti-virus scanners for Mac computers. Virus scanners include Sophos, ClamXav and Avast. Each is free, and some have an upgraded paid version as well. Read the features of each one, look at the operating system requirements and choose one that works for you.

3
Click "Download" on the antivirus software you want to use, and wait for the software to download to your computer. Typically, you will see a software icon on your desktop when the software has downloaded to your computer.
-
4
Drag the newly downloaded program from your Desktop or Downloads folder to the Applications folder on your Mac.
-
5
Open the anti-virus software from your Applications folder and follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
-
6
Restart your computer if required by your new anti-virus software.
-
7
Open the anti-virus software from your Applications folder and click "Scan" or a similar button to run the scan. If the program gives you an option, select "Scan All" or a similar function. You need to scan your entire computer, since keylogging viruses can often hide in the smallest file or folder. Scanning each folder on the computer may take some time, but the process is worth it as it could save you from being the victim of identity theft.
-
8
Select "Remove" or a similar function if the virus scan detects a suspicious file.
