How to Switch to Apple Mac Hook Ups on the Same Cable Modem
Your cable modem can be used with a Macintosh or Windows computer. If you are switching your cable modem from a Windows computer to a Mac you only have to clear out the modem's internal memory so it works with a new computer. You can then optionally set up your Mac to share the cable Internet connection wirelessly to other wireless computers and handhelds.

1
Shut down the computer currently connected to the cable modem.
-
2
Disconnect all cables from the cable modem, including the power cable. Wait for at least two minutes. This is necessary so any capacitors in the cable modem discharge their stored electricity, ensuring that the modem's memory is completely reset.

3
Connect the power and incoming cable to the cable modem but do not reconnect the Ethernet cable yet. Wait for the blinking lights on the front of the modem to indicate a good connection; this is usually one or two solid green LED lights.
-
4
Connect an Ethernet cable from the Ethernet port on the Mac to the outgoing Ethernet port on the cable modem. You should see another green LED flash, then go solid as it provides an Internet connection to the Mac.
-
5
Open System Preferences from the Dock, then click on the Network icon. A solid green dot will appear next to the "Ethernet" port to indicate that you have an Internet connection.
-
6
Click on the "View All" button, then click on the "Sharing" icon, if you wish to use your Mac to share your cable modem wirelessly. Click the checkbox for "Internet Sharing," then choose "Ethernet" in the "From" drop-menu and "Airport" or "Wi-Fi" in the "To" drop-menu.
