How to Make an M4V in iShowU

If you have been online and watched a software tutorial, you know what a screencast is. Video software tutorials show an instructor's computer screen as they use the program. Some Mac owners have a program called iShowU, which is used to record screencasts. Once they're recorded, iShowU asks you what kind of video format the video should be saved as. There many options here, including the M4V format.

Instructions

    • 1

Open iShowU and click the "Screencasts" option on the left of the main menu. This brings up all the screencast settings.

    • 2

Click "Compression" and click "MP4" as the video file's compression format, as the M4V file is created using MP4 compression.

    • 3

Click "Record" and iShowU begins recording your computer's screen. Speak into the computer's microphone, to add audio to the screencast M4V file.

    • 4

Click "Finish" on the iShowU main window to stop the recording, once you are done. A window comes up showing the different video formats the raw MP4 can be encoded in.

    • 5

Click "M4V" from the list of available video formats, and then click "OK" to save the M4V file.
