DIY: Steel Hammock Stand
Nothing beats napping in a comfortable hammock on a beautiful day. Hammocks are of relatively simple construction, lending themselves well to the eager do-it-yourselfer. Taking less than a few hours, building a metal hammock stand is possible with supplies found at most major hardware outlets. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 4 x 4 inch, 8-foot long metal beams (3)
- 4 x 4 inch, 4-foot long metal beams (2)
- Spreader bar brackets (2)
- Drill
- Phillips bit attachment
- Self-tapping sheet metal screws

Slide the center support beam into the spreader brackets, one bracket at each end. The center support beam and the brackets should be able to stand on their own, with two legs down and a single leg facing up.

Slide another 8-foot beam into each leg on the brackets that are facing upwards, forming the hammock supports.

Slide the four shorter leg beams into the two bracket legs, completing the base of the hammock stand.

Screw two self-tapping screws into the spreader brackets, through each beam.

Tips & Warnings
Use stainless steel beams to prevent unwanted corrosion and unsightly rust from forming on the hammock stand.
