How to Have a Candyland Prom

Providing an assortment of gumdrops, licorice and lollipops is imperative.

Candy Land is a children's game distributed by Hasbro in which players navigate a path through a colorful country whose candy-themed inhabitants, like Lord Licorice, Princess Lolly and Mr. Mint, inhabit forests and swamps made of candies. A Candy Land theme can create a playful and nostalgic feel for your prom night, not to mention providing an excuse for lots of delicious treats and providing some truly memorable photo opportunities. The best approach is to divide the venue and dance floor into areas inspired by the regions of Candy Land.

Instructions

    • 1

Print prom invitations with a border of blue, orange, green, red, purple and yellow squares to emulate the Candy Land path or decorate the invitations with candy-themed clipart or stickers, such as lollipops, gumdrops and candy canes. Invite students to "a night in Candy Land" and provide the time, date and location of the prom.

    • 2

Create a winding path by attaching sheets of blue, orange, green, red, purple and yellow construction paper to the floor with a loop of masking tape at each corner.

    • 3

Create Molasses Swamp by covering a small table with large brown tablecloths that reach to the ground. Surrounded the table with brown blankets on the ground. Set up a chocolate fondue bar or chocolate fountain on the table. Cut up strawberries and pieces of apple, banana and pound cake and arrange them on a platter for guests to dip into the chocolate using toothpicks.

    • 4

Arrange large colorful beanbag chairs in one corner of the room to create the Gumdrop Mountains. Place low tea tables near the beanbags. Scatter gumdrops on the tables or place them in bowls on the tabletops.

    • 5

Paint polystyrene spheres in a variety of bright colors, then stick dowels into them to create giant lollipops. The dowels should range from 1 to 3 feet long and the spheres should range from about 5 to 15 inches in diameter. The sphere should form about one-third of the visible height of each lollipop. For example, push a 12-inch dowel two inches into a 5-inch sphere to create a 15-inch lollipop. Plant the giant lollipops in buckets of sand along with real lollipops.

    • 6

Glue a paper mache cupcake to the end of a 5-foot dowel. Cut out an eight-pointed cardboard star, glue glitter onto it, and glue it to the end of another 5-foot dowel. Instead of crowing a prom king and queen, choose a couple to be King Kandy and Queen Frostine, giving them the cupcake staff and the star staff, respectively.
