Old sink fixtures can leave marks on the sink surface.

After many years tightly pressed against a ceramic surface, old faucets can leave marks, rust and stains when removed. Small amounts of water may get under the faucet fixtures and leave discolorations. Sometimes a simple cleaning is not enough to remove these remains of the old faucet and the marks must be buffed out. Ideally, this buffing is done before installing new faucets for best results.   • Rag or towel
  • Black drywall sandpaper (light grit)

Instructions

    • 1

      Wipe the sink area with the faucet marks until it is dry and free of dirt and debris.

      Rub the sandpaper in a circular motion over the faucet marks. Apply a good amount of downward pressure while rubbing.

      Lift up the sandpaper and rinse off the surface with clean water. Wipe dry with a clean towel or rag.

      Repeat Steps 2 and 3 as needed until the marks are faded or removed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Consider using rust remover or bathroom cleaner to remove stubborn rust marks or stains.

  • Do not use regular sandpaper as this can be too harsh on the ceramic surface.
