How to Embed Widgets for SU

StumbleUpon, frequently referred to as “SU” by its users, is a free content-discovery service designed to help you find Web pages that fit your personal interests. With StumbleUpon, you install a toolbar to your Web browser, then give pages a “thumbs-up” to add them to your favorites. To show off your favorite pages on StumbleUpon, add a widget to your blog or website. StumbleUpon widgets let you display your most popular StumbleUpon content, and are simple to install.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to stumbleupon.com/widgets and click the “Get Started” button.

    • 2

Click “User Favorites” to display favorites from your StumbleUpon account. Click “Best of an Interest and/or Site” to display favorites from a specific interest topic or website.

    • 3

Type your username into the field if you clicked “User Favorites.” If you chose to create a widget for an interest topic or website, type the topic name or site domain into the respective fields. For interest topics, press the “Enter” key to add the topic to the list, then type another interest topic into the field to add another one. For websites, click the “+” button next to the Domain field to add more than one site.

    • 4

      Click the “Next” button.

    • 5

Click the tab under “What type of widget would you like?” to choose a widget format and size. Think about where you want to embed the widget on your website or blog when choosing a format.

    • 6

Type a title for your widget into the “What’s the title of your widget?” field. The title appears just above the favorites in your widget.

    • 7

Click the HTML embed code in the column on the right to select it, then hold down "Ctrl" and press "C" to copy it to your computer’s clipboard.

    • 8

Navigate to your blog dashboard or open your website editing application. Open the HTML for the page to which you want to add the widget.

    • 9

Hold down "Ctrl" and press "V" to paste the HTML embed code for your widget where you want it to appear on your website or blog. If you don’t have a lot of experience with HTML code, use text that appears on your website or blog to figure out where a line of code appears on your page. Preview your page to verify the location of the widget, then move it around if you need to before saving.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you use a desktop application to edit your website, don’t forget to upload the page after embedding your StumbleUpon widget.
