How to Finish a Crochet Border
Crochet borders are a quick way to dress up handmade blankets, scarves or sweaters. When you add a crochet border to a piece of knitted, crocheted or woven fabric, you start by attaching the yarn to the edge and making a chain. The chain sets the height for the border stitches. As you work around the piece, you build a row of stitches that match the height of the chain. At the end of the round, you must close off the border by joining the last stitch with the initial chain.

1
Work all the way around the item until you come to the last border stitch before the initial chain. Work the stitch as usual, leaving the last loop on your hook.
-
2
Insert the hook into the top link of the chain with which you began the border.
-
-
3
Wrap the hook as if to make another crochet stitch.
-
4
Pull the wrap through both the chain link and the loop currently on your hook to make a slip stitch. You will be left with one loop on your hook.
-
5
Break the yarn coming from the skein, leaving a 3-inch tail. Wrap the hook with the tail and pull it all the way through the last loop to form a knot and finish the border.
-
6
Weave the tail along the edge of your border by using your hook to pull it through to the front, and then to the back of each successive stitch.

Tips & Warnings
When making a crochet border, use the same hook or needle size and the same yarn weight you used to crochet or knit the piece.
