How to Crochet a Celtic Cross

How to Crochet a Celtic Cross thumbnail
The Celtic cross is usually an ornate symbol of Christianity.

The Celtic cross is a circle with a cross in the middle of it, extending past the ring. The crocheted Celtic cross doesn't have the ring. Instead, it has four smaller arms extending between the four large arms of the cross. These smaller arms represent the ring. The Celtic cross is crocheted using triple crochet, single crochet and the picot stitch and works into a cross that you can sew onto another item, use as an ornament or use as a refrigerator magnet.

Chain 5 then work a picot stitch in the third chain from the hook. Crochet 2 more picot stitches into the same chain. Half double crochet in the next 2 chain stitches. Crochet a single crochet in the circle.

Repeat Step 2, then repeat Step 3, and alternate between the two steps twice more for a total of eight arms total. You will end with four long arms, and four short ones between the long ones. Slip stitch to the base of the first arm, then tie off and weave the yarn through the last couple of stitches.
