1
Cut a plywood panel to fit the space behind your king-size bed. A 3/4-inch-thick panel cut 84 inches long will extend slightly beyond both sides of the king-size mattress.
-
2
Apply a coat of stain/polyurethane to one side and all edges of the plywood panel. Let the stain dry.
-
-
3
Flip the headboard over, and apply a coat of the same material on the opposite side and on the edges. Let the stain dry.
-
4
Cut dried grapevines or thin, dried twigs into 36-inch lengths or to lengths that span the width of the headboard. The amount of twigs needed will vary based on the desired density of your rustic design. If these materials can't be picked up from your yard, craft stores sell twigs and vines by the bundle.
-
5
Place the plywood face up on a flat surface. Glue one cut vine or twig to the far left edge of the face of the wood, using waterproof construction adhesive. The twigs should run the width of the plywood.
-
6
Repeat Step 5 to attach all the twigs to the face of the headboard. Cover the wood with twigs, or place them sporadically and randomly; both designs work with a rustic bedroom decor.
-
7
Wait 24 hours for the adhesive to dry.
-
8
Run a stud finder along the wall until it indicates it has found the wall studs behind the bed. Usually, a stud finder will beep or flash a light as an indicator.
-
9
Attach two wall hangers on the wall with screws and a screwdriver. Each wall hanger should attach to a wall stud.
-
10
Attach two wall hangers on the wall with screws and a screwdriver. Each wall hanger should attach to a wall stud. Attach the hook section of the two wall hangers onto the back of the headboard spaced at the same width as between the hangers on the wall studs.
-
11
Hang the rustic headboard on the wall hangers.
