How to Open a Layered PSD in Illustrator
The different applications in the Adobe Creative Suite are all useful for different aspects of graphic design but are also highly compatible with each other. This means you can modify a photo in Photoshop, then open it in Illustrator to take advantage of its smooth and simple vector design and layout features. Layers are an essential part of any graphic design project, adding flexibility and precision to your work so it's vital to retain the layout structure of your Photoshop documents when you open them in Illustrator.

Start Adobe Illustrator on your PC or Mac.

Click "File" in the Illustrator menu bar and choose "Open."

Browse to the location of your Photoshop document and click "Open" to select it.

Click the "Convert Layers to Objects" radio button and click "OK" to open the document.

Click "Window" in the Adobe Illustrator menu bar and choose "Layers" in the drop-down list. The layer panel will open, then you can view and edit the layers of your Illustrator document exactly as you saved them in the original Photoshop document.
