How to Dispose of a Projection Lamp
Lamps used in projectors are long-lasting fluorescent bulbs that use mercury to operate. Mercury is toxic to humans. If massive amounts of projector lamps end up in landfills, the mercury inside of them can seep into soil and water resources. The Environmental Protection Agency regulates the proper disposal of fluorescent bulbs under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, which works to prevent mercury contamination. Laws vary by state.
