How to Laminate Speakers
Whether watching television, listening to the car radio or doing a slideshow presentation at work, people depend on speakers to provide the soundtrack to everyday life in the modern world. If your speakers are still in perfect working condition but looking a little worse for wear, you can restore the outer shell with vinyl laminate to give them a clean and professional finish.
Things You'll Need
- Paint scraper
- Sandpaper
- Measuring tape
- Pen and paper
- Adhesive vinyl laminate
- Utility knife
- Ruler
Instructions

1
Peel the old vinyl laminate off your speakers. If necessary, use a paint scraper to carefully break the adhesive away from the wood.
-
2
Sand the wood on your speakers smooth with sandpaper. Vinyl laminate tends to show surface imperfections when applied to wood, so the smoother the surface, the better the results.
-
-
3
Measure the width and the length of the side of one speaker with your measuring tape. Add 1/2 inch to both measurements and write them down on a piece of paper.
-
4
Measure and cut two pieces of adhesive vinyl laminate in the length and width you just calculated with your measuring tape and utility knife.
-
5
Match the edges of one piece of vinyl laminate to the corresponding edges on one side of the first speaker and press the laminate onto the speaker in a fluid motion from top to bottom.
-
6
Smooth out any imperfections in the laminate with a ruler.
-
7
Cut away the excess laminate with a utility knife.
-
8
Repeat the same process for each side of the speaker until it is completely laminated.
