How to Replace a Diverter Valve on a Moen Tub
The Diverter valve on a Moen tub is actually inside the tub's spout. This diverter is just a small valve that stops the water from flowing into the tub. Instead, when the diverter is engaged, water flows up into the shower head. Since the diverter is part of the spout, you have to replace the spout to fix the diverter. Fixing just the diverter portion of the spout is not possible. Replacing the part only takes about 30 minutes. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Shut off the tub water supply by closing the home's main water lines.
-
2
Unscrew the tub spout set screw located on the bottom of the faucet along the section closest to the shower wall, with an Allen wrench. This screw is always located along the back edge of the tub spout in Moen models.
-
-
3
Slide the old tub spout off the pipe using your hands. The spout slides off when the screw is loosened all the way. If the spout does not slide off, unscrew the set screw completely with the Allen wrench.
-
4
Clean off any residue or metal shavings from the tub pipe with an emery cloth or abrasive metal sanding paper. This residue sometimes remains from previous installations and should always be cleaned off for the best results.
-
5
Place the new tub spout on the pipe. Rotate the spout so the mouth is pointing directly into the tub. Turn the set screw in the bottom of the spout with the Allen wrench to fasten it to the pipe.
