Adding texture to your hair will give it more dimension and volume.

Adding texture to your hair is a nice way to change up your usual natural hairstyle. Some hair types crinkle easily and will hold curls and waves for a long time, while others may need extra effort to get the desired effect. Regardless of your hair type, use quality mousse with extra hold to ensure your style stays bouncy and full of volume all day. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Wash your hair as you normally would. If your hair is naturally limp, use volumizing shampoo and conditioner to ensure your crinkled hair has some bounce and is not flat at the roots. Towel dry your hair thoroughly.

    • 2

Dispense a small amount of mousse into your hand, and work it through your hair. If your hair is very thick, you may want to separate your hair into several sections, making sure all parts of your hair get some product. Once your hair has mousse in it, run your fingers through your hair, loosening it up.

    • 3

Lean forward, and flip your hair upside down. Shake it out a little to loosen and dry it. Take sections of your hair, and scrunch them upward. Continue doing this for about 3 minutes, or until your hair is fully dry. Scrunch all sections, both at the front and the back of the head.

If your hair is generally resistant to texturizing, use a blow-dryer with a diffuser attachment to dry the hair. Diffuse on low speed until the hair is almost fairly dry. If your hair waves easily, you can skip the diffuser and allow the hair to air-dry.

Flip your hair back to its normal position. To make the crinkly texture more defined, use a small amount of mousse to achieve the desired tousled look.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your hair is resistant to waves and curls, follow Steps 1 and 2. Then proceed to braid your hair. The more braids you put in your hair, the more crinkled it will be. Sleep on your braids, and take them out the next morning for a crinkled, textured look. Lightly spray the finished look with hair spray to ensure a long hold.
