How to Lengthen a Shirt Sleeve

Your sleeve should fall on your wrist bone.

If the sleeves on your favorite shirt have somehow shrunken quite a bit since the last time you've worn it, but you don't want to get rid of your favorite shirt right away, there is something that you can do to save your shirt. By following a few steps, you can adjust the length of your sleeves with a little hemming.

Things You'll Need:

  • Sewing Machine
  • Straight Pins
  • Pencil
  • Tape Measure
  • Seam Ripper
  • Iron

Try on the shirt to see where you want the shirt to fall.

Turn the sleeves inside out. Look at the seam at the top of the sleeve caps to see if you have extra fabric to work with.

Undo the seam around the cuffs using a seam ripper without tearing the fabric.

Mark where the new seam will be measured using a pencil. Then line up the sleeves together to make sure that they’re even.

Pin the new seam using the straight pin.

Create a crease for the seam and flatten the sleeves using an iron.

Try on the shirt to make sure that the measurement is correct.

Turn the sleeves inside out again and sew the seam using a sewing machine.
