Making Sculpted Clay Penguins
Polymer clay is a sculpting clay made of a polymer compound that you can fire in your home oven. Create small polymer clay penguins using three colors of clay and simple hand-shaping. Use the completed penguins as party favors or incorporate them into jewelry, decor or other crafting projects. Add a special touch to the penguins by lightly hand-sanding the clay after it has baked, which adds a sheen to the surface of the clay.

1
Pull off a 3-inch section of black polymer clay. Shape it into an elongated oval shape. Pinch in the top quarter of the oval to form a teardrop shape. Note that this teardrop-shaped section will serve as the head.
-
2
Pull off a 1-inch section of white clay. Press it out until it forms a flattened elongated oval. Place the white section over the middle of the black oval so that it forms the penguin's belly. Press the white section into the black firmly to adhere.

Tear off two 1/8-inch sections of white clay. Press into flattened circles. Position the circles on the head of the penguin, near the top, to become the eyes. Press to adhere. Tear off two 1/16-inch sections of black clay. Form flattened circles and press into the white eyes to become the pupils.

4
Use two 1/2-inch sections of yellow clay to form feet. Create a thick, short log with each section. Press the log horizontally into the bottom of the body, evenly spaced from the other foot. Stand up the penguin and shape the front of his feet until he stands well on his own. Flatten the feet and round them out until he stands.

5
Remove a 1/4-inch section of yellow clay and work into a triangle shape for the beak. Press the beak into the front of the penguin.

Repeat Steps 1 through 5 to create additional penguins. Place all of the penguins onto a baking sheet. Place in the oven and bake according to package directions. Allow penguins to cool overnight before using.
