How to Disassemble a GoFlex Desk Hard Drive
The Seagate GoFlex Desk is a universal serial bus, high-capacity external hard drive designed for use with desktop computers. The GoFlex Desk comes in 1 terabyte, 2TB and 3TB sizes and works with either USB 2.0 or USB 3.0. If the hard drive inside the GoFlex Desk is showing signs of failure -- like freezing or making clicking or clunking noises -- or if the internal hard drive doesn't have a large enough capacity to meet your needs, you can disassemble the GoFlex Desk to replace the internal drive with another disk.
Things You'll Need

Instructions

1
Pull the bottom base off of the Seagate GoFlex desk hard drive. Wedge the edge of a flathead screwdriver or plastic scribe into the gap found between the top cover and the bottom panel.
-
2
Move the handle of the scribe or screwdriver up and down, working around the case until the top and bottom sides come loose from one another.
-
-
3
Lift up the top cover, and set it aside. Put on an antistatic wrist strap before touching the interior of the case. Lift the hard drive -- the component with the Seagate sticker attached -- up to remove it from the GoFlex enclosure.
-
4
Pull the rubber screw caps off the right and left edges of the hard drive chassis. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to loosen and remove the four screws surrounding the chassis.
-
5
Turn over the hard drive so that the chassis is facing up. Hold the drive by its edges; then lift the chassis up off the drive to finish disassembling the Seagate GoFlex desk hard drive.
