How to Get a WiFi Teather for My Sanyo Zio

The stock version of the Android 2.2 operating system includes the ability to tether the phone to a computer as a Wi-Fi hotspot. However, many carriers opted to remove this feature. If your Zio does not have an option for the tethering & portable hotspot in the Settings menu, you must root your phone and install a third-party Wi-Fi tethering app. Root the phone by downloading and installing a program called z4root through the phone's browser.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "Menu" button on the Zio's main screen and touch "Settings."

    • 2

Tap "Applications" and enable "Unknown sources." The Zio will display a confirmation screen.

    • 3

Touch "OK" and press the "Home" button to return to the main screen.

    • 4

Open the applications screen and touch "Browser."

    • 5

Touch the address bar, enter "static.droidnetwork.net/wicked/files/z4root.1.3.0.apk" and tap "Enter" to install the program.

    • 7
