Step-by-Step Directions for a Tube Scarf With a Round Loom

A tube scarf made with yarn is enjoyed by many individuals who live in cold climates. The double thickness of the scarf provides extra warmth on cold days. A hand knitted or crocheted tube scarf is very time consuming. A fast and fun way to make a homemade tube scarf is using a round loom. Make a 45-inch tube scarf with two skeins of 4-ply worsted weight yarn. Allow approximately three hours to complete the process.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the 31-peg round loom on a flat surface so the single horizontal peg is pointing toward you. The vertical pegs will be pointing up.

    • 2

Tie a slipknot approximately 12-inches from the end of the yarn. Slide the slipknot over the first peg to the left of the horizontal peg. Pull the slipknot so it slides easily on the peg but does not fall off.

    • 3

Wrap the next peg and each peg thereafter with an E-wrap stitch. The E-wrap stitch is completed by wrapping the yarn from the back of the peg, around the left hand side, to the front, then around the right hand side. Continue to the next peg and repeat the process.

    • 4

E-wrap the pegs a second time so two loops are visible on each peg.

    • 5

Position the tip of the loom knitting tool so it is in-between the two stitches. Slide the end of the tool through the top of the bottom loop. Pull the bottom loop over the top loop. Repeat the process with the remaining 30 pegs.

    • 6

E-wrap each peg. Pull the bottom loop over the top loop. Continue with this process until the tube scarf is 45-inches long.

    • 7

Insert the loom knitting tool through the loop on the first peg to the left of the horizontal peg. Pull the loop off the peg and place it on the next peg to the left. Pull the bottom loop over the top loop. Repeat the process around the loom until one loop remains.

    • 8

Cut the yarn approximately 12 inches from the last stitch. Pull the end of the yarn through the loop. Pull tight to create a knot. The scarf is now one long tube.

    • 9

Place the tube on a flat work surface so the 45-inch length is on a horizontal axis. Smooth out all wrinkles in the scarf with your hand. Match the top and bottom layer of each end. Position the fold so the 12-inch ends of yarn are along the bottom edge of the scarf.

    • 10

Thread the 12-inch end of yarn on the right side through the eye of a large eyed needle.

    • 11

Insert the needle from the bottom through the top in the next stitch. Repeat the process across the edge until the last stitch.

    • 12

Complete the last stitch securing the top and bottom of the tube, leaving a 1-inch loop. Insert the needle through the loop. Pull the yarn tight to secure.

    • 13

Insert the end of the needle between the top and bottom layer, bringing the end out approximately 1 1/2 inches from the edge. Cut the yarn with scissors. This will hide the end of the yarn so it is not visible when wearing the tube scarf.

    • 14

Thread the 12-inch piece of yarn on the left hand end of the scarf through the eye of a large-eyed needle. Repeat Steps 11 through 13.
