Instructions

    • 1

Roll a towel or piece of foam into a tight circle to create the long bolster pillow if you don't have a pillow form. Secure the towel or material with a large rubber band or piece of ribbon on both ends. Use a third tie in the center for an extra-long bolster pillow.

    • 2

Measure the bolster pillow. Write down the length and circumference (the distance around the pillow.) Add at least 4 inches to the circumference and 8 or more inches to the length. For example, a pillow that measures 12 inches long and 8 inches around would require material that is 20 inches long and 12 inches wide.

    • 3

Cut a piece of fabric using the adjusted measurements. Keep the measurements to use as a reference if you plan to create new covers periodically for a fresh and updated look.

    • 4

Lay the fabric on a flat surface with the finished side facing down. Fold the edges in, creating 1/2-inch folds. Fold the fabric again for a clean, finished-looking hem. Iron the fold.

    • 5

Sew the hem, or use a fabric adhesive or glue.

    • 6

Place the pillow along one edge of the long side of the fabric with the finished side facing down. Center the pillow and roll it in the fabric until the pillow is completely covered.

    • 7

Pin the fabric in place if you're sewing, or apply the fabric adhesive. If you're sewing, remove the pillow, turn the fabric inside-out and sew the fabric together in a straight line leaving the two ends open. Turn the fabric so the finished side is facing out again, and slide the pillow back into the fabric.

    • 8

Gather the ends of the material on both sides of the pillow, and secure it with a rubber band. Tie a decorative cord or piece of ribbon around the rubber band for a finished and decorative look.
