1
Avoid using greasy hair products. Certain styling products such as gels, sprays, waxes and shaping agents are oily and can add extra grease to your hair. Excessive oil can lead to hair that is too shiny and greasy looking. If your hair is already oily, look for products including shampoos and conditioners specifically formulated for oily hair. Wash hair daily or every second day to avoid excess oil production from the sebaceous glands leading to heavy hair.

2
Wash your hair in lukewarm water. Hot water will dry out the skin which can lead to rough, brittle strands and damaged hair. Massage shampoo gently into the scalp and rinse with cool water afterwards to lock in shine. Apply conditioner to the ends and mid-shafts of hair as opposed to the roots, which can create a greasy appearance and lead to excess oil production on the scalp.

Brush your hair when it's dry or semi-dry. Wet hair is more likely to break and at risk of damage. Damp, not wet, hair should be brushed with a wide-toothed comb to help break up any potential tangles. Also, avoid over-brushing your hair as this can lead to hair loss and a dull appearance.

Use a heat-protecting agent if blow-drying your hair. Hot air from a blow-dryer can damage hair and lead to dry, frizzy, dull strands. Purchase a heat-protecting anti-frizz agent and apply it to your hair before styling with a blow-dryer, curling iron or straightener. This helps lock in moisture to create shinier and healthier locks. Also, leave some time to let your hair air-dry prior to heat styling to avoid having to apply excessively hot temperatures to it, which can cause damage.
