Taking Doors Off of an Armoire & Adding Curtains
Curtains create a soft look and could be just what is needed to change a masculine-looking armoire into one that is slightly more feminine. Curtains that match the window dressings create a nice flow within the bedroom. In a child’s room, an armoire with a curtain provides easy access to clothing or toys. Save the doors for later use for yet another armoire makeover. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Remove the doors using a screwdriver. Keep the hardware in a bag, and attach the bag to the doors for safekeeping.
-
2
Fill the holes using wood putty by spreading just enough putty to fill the hole. Use your finger to apply the putty. Allow the putty to dry for approximately 30 minutes, and remove the excess. Smooth the surface with medium-grit sandpaper.

-
3
Paint or stain the putty to match the finish on the armoire.
-
4
Place a metal rule across the width of the opening, and add 2 inches for the length of the rod needed. Measure the length of the opening, along with the width, to determine the appropriate size of curtain to hang.
-
5
Hold one mounting bracket at the upper right corner of the armoire. Move the bracket 1 inch to the right and 1 inch above the corner. Mark the location with a pencil through the bracket screw holes. Mark the second bracket using the same method.
-
6
Attach the brackets to the armoire using a handheld screwdriver.
-
7
Insert the rod through the curtain pocket, and attach to the brackets. Place curtain weights inside the bottom hem of the panel to weight the panel and keep it from moving.
